Health and Safety policy
Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
This is the Health and Safety Policy Statement of Orcare Limited.
Our statement of general policy is:
- to provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities;
- to consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety;
- to provide and maintain safe plant and equipment;
- to provide information, instruction and supervision for employees;
- to ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks, and to give them adequate training;
- to prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health;
- to maintain safe and healthy working conditions; and
- to review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.

Paul Marden, Director
Responsibilities
Overall and final responsibility for health and safety is that of Paul Marden, Director.
All employees have to:
- co-operate with supervisors and managers on health and safety matters;
- not interfere with anything provided to safeguard their health and safety;
- take reasonable care of their own health and safety; and
- report all health and safety concerns to an appropriate person (as detailed in this policy statement).
Risk Assessments in relation to common parts of The Hub plus fabric and furniture of the Orcare office will be undertaken by Regus, and are the responsibility of the Regus Centre Manager, the results of which will be passed to the Director. Risk Assessment in relation to Orcare assets, our employees and visitors to the hub will be undertaken by the Director and reported to the Board of Directors. Action required to remove or control risks will be approved, actioned and reviewed by the Director.
Assessments will be reviewed quarterly or when work activies change, whichever is the soonest.
Consultation with employees
Employee consultation on matters of health and safety will take place directly.
Safe plant and equipment
The Director will be responsible for:
- identifying plant or equipment needing maintenance;
- ensuring effective maintenance procedures are drawn up;
- ensuring that all identified maintenance is implemented;
- ensuring that new plant and equipment meets health and safety standards before it is purchased.
Any problems found with plant/equipment should be reported to the Director.
Information, instruction and supervision
The Health and Safety Law poster is displayed in the Kitchen, East Wing, The Hub.
Health and safety advice is available from the Director.
The Director will be responsible for:
- supervision of young workers/trainees;
- ensuring that our employees working at locations under the control of other employers, are given relevant health and safety information.
Competency for tasks and training
Induction training will be provided for all employees by the Director. There are currently no jobs requiring special training.
Training records are kept at head office. Training will be identified and monitored by the Director.
Accidents, first aid and work-related ill health
There is a First Aid kit at Reception, East Wing, The Hub.
Appointed persons are Katalin Hollinsworth, Reception (dial 0).
All accidents at The Hub must be reported to the Regus Centre Manager, who will record the incident in the Centre's accident book. A copy of must also be passed to the Director for inclusion in the Company's accident book.
All accidents outside The Hub, at customer sites or when working away from the office, must be reported to the Director, who will record the indicident in the companies accident book.
The Director is responsible for reporting accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences to the enforcing authority (HSE or your local authority depending upon where you work).
Monitoring
It is the our policy to monitor the effectiveness of and adherance to this Health and safety policy by undertaking quarterly and ad-hoc spot checks, and also by reviewing accidents or periods of ill-health as they occur.
The Director is responsible for:
- investigating accidents;
- investigating work-related causes of sickness absences;
- acting on investigation findings to prevent a recurrence.
Emergency procedures - fire and evacuation
The Director is accountable for, and the Regus Centre Manager is responsible for ensuring the fire risk assessment in relation to The Hub is undertaken and implemented. Risk assessment outside the context of the The Hub is the responsibility of the Director.
Escape routes are checked by the Regus Centre Manager. Fire extinguishers are maintained and checked by Regus Centre Manager. Emergancy evacuation training of the entire building will be undertaken 2-3 times per year either by the Company in cooperation with Regus and the building owner.
